This kit includes:

  • File
  • File holder
  • Filing guide
  • File handle

How to sharpen a chainsaw chain using the Black & Decker kit:

  1. Always use a file holder filing guide to sharpen your chain. This will ensure you always get the correct sharpening angles.
  2. Place the file holder flat on the top plate and depth gauge of the cutter.
  3. Keep the correct top plate riling angle line of 30 degrees on your file guide parallel with your chain.
  4. Sharpen cutters on one side of the chains first. File from the inside of each cutter to the outside.
  5. Then turn your saw around and repeat steps 2 - 4 for the cutters on the other side of your chain.
  6. Keep all cutter lengths equal.
  7. If damage is present on chrome surface at top plates or side plates, file back until damage is removed

    I think the makers assume you know how to sharpen a chain since the instructions are useless. The chainsaw instructions were little better, but since the kit only assembles in one way and there is only one way to file, I worked it out quickly. Fabulous results. The chain is once again very sharp.

    Supposed to be for the chain on my saw, but is a Black & Decker tool. The instructions are very vague,and the angle plate does not fit my saw chain. I used the file, with the chain on the saw and approximated the cutting angles, chain o.k now. Don't waste your money on this kit, buy a couple of "rat tail' files and google the sharpening technique!

    easy to use, and worked fine. The chain cut rate after sharprning was almost like a new chain.
