Over-extending your dishwasher door can result in damaged hinges. In this video Helen demonstrates how to replace the right hand hinge on a Bosch SGS43E02 dishwasher.
Hi, I'm Helen from eSpares.
Over-extending your dishwasher door can result in damaged hinges. I'm going to show you how to replace the right hand hinge on this Bosch dishwasher. The right and left hand hinges normally aren't interchangeable, so always make sure you buy the right one.
Before ordering any parts you want to get the full model details from your appliance. On a dishwasher, this can usually be found on the edge of the door.
Safety first: Before you start any work, always make sure you switch off at the mains.
Now to start this job, I need to remove the door. To do this, I need to unhook the hinges. And to get to the hinges I need to remove the top and side panels. For this part of the job, I need a Torx head screwdriver.
I've now removed the top and side panels, and the baskets for convenience. Now on this Bosch dishwasher, the hinge is held under tension by a spring and pulley system. So to unhook this, I need to close the door, remove this plastic cover, and then, with a pair of pliers, I need to unhook this plastic part of the pulley system. And I need to do the same on the other side.
With the hinges un-sprung, I can now go about removing the door. Now be careful because the door is now really heavy and can easily fall open, so always make sure it's closed properly. I need to remove this front panel here - to do this I need to remove the kickplate first, and then I need to remove three screws either side of the door.
I can now remove the door from the machine by getting a flat-head screwdriver and prising open the metal clip and then pulling the door away. I just need to pull the door seal away from the machine and then lay the door down - now please be aware that you're still attached by wires to the machine so you can't move the door very far.
So here's my new hinge. Because of the wires, I don't have a huge amount of room to work. So I'm going to start by removing the hinge cover and put that to one side, then there are two screws on this side which I need to remove.
So I can now just swap the hinges over, making sure it's in the right place - and just make sure the door seal fits in between the hinge and the door. So just make sure that's in the right position. Then I can just do it up and put everything back together.
Now I've just rested the door in place while I attach the door seal at the bottom here to the lip of the machine. Don't forget to reattach the hinge pulley system.
There you go, one right hand door hinge replaced on this Bosch dishwasher. Hinges for most makes and models of dishwasher are available on the eSpares website.
Thanks for watching.
