Pump Impeller cap 25 February 2010
This would normally be exeptionally easy to replace by simply unscrewing the old one and fitting the replacement. In my case not so, a nail and reasonable limescale prevented removal of the old cap. If you have this problem, carefully pierce the center of the cap (having drained the machine first), and gentley break out the siezed cap. I then removed the pump assy, by removing the front bezel and pump retaing screws, removed the fiddly hose clips and de-scaled the pump by blocking the hose outlets with champaine corks and using hot citric acid and gentle abrasion. This took 2 hrs of soaking. Once clean, re-assemble in reverse. To ease hose fitting and ease cap screwing, I smeared all mating surfaces very sparingly with petrolium jelly. Re-fitting was easy with reasonable access, but with difficult to access hose clips making it harder. Putting the machine on its back would make this easier, but I didnt have room. Do this to save a new pump assy complete. Procedure requires a bit of care and patience, but not to hard to do. This proves regular de-scaling in hard water areas is a must!
