Neff Washing machine W5420X0GB starts to wash and trips the RCD.

Neff Washing machine W5420X0GB will fill, rinse, spin, drain, but as it starts to wash it trips the RCD. Heater has 46KOhm resistance, board unmarked, motor brushes ok. What next - thermostat appears to work but limited reading. Earths are good and unit is approx 24months old.

  • RCD's detect earth leakage. So your heater element had a connection to earth. If your Heater is tripping the RCD check resistance between the earth and live, and earth and neutral. Its preferably done with an insulation resistance tester if you have one, otherwise an Ohm Meter. By Hugh - Oxon - 09 March 2020

The heater should read 25 to 30 ohms typically so appears to be faulty. For more information see our video: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/7/1794/how-to-diagnose-a-faulty-washing-machine-heater
