How to Replace the Door Seal on a Rangemaster Cooker

If the door seal on your Rangemaster cooker is broken or has become damaged, it will need to be replaced as soon as possible. A faulty door seal can lead to heat escaping from your oven which means your food won't cook correctly and your oven will use more energy. In this article, we will take you through a step by step guide of how to remove and replace your door seal to get your Rangemaster cooker back up and running again.

How do I know my oven door seal is faulty?

Oven door seals help to keep the oven door closed and the heat inside. If your oven isn't heating up or your food isn't cooking correctly, it's best to check your door seal. Feel around the oven door while the oven is on and if you feel hot air blowing out, your seal most likely has a gap in it. You can also physically check the door seal for any visible signs of cracks or damages.

Replacement door seals

To make sure you get the correct replacement door seal for your oven make and model, you will need to have the model number to hand. For cookers and ovens, this can be found on a sticker or data plate, usually behind the oven door or around the frame. If you can't find it here, check the inside, back or sides of the appliance. The model number usually consists of a combination of letters and numbers and could also include characters such as a dash (-) or a slash (/).

How do I save energy with my oven?

As well as faulty door seals, there are many other things that could mean your oven is using more energy than it should. Here we have a few simple ways to make sure you are saving on energy bills and keeping your oven in top shape:

  • Keep the oven door closed as much as possible to avoid heat loss.
  • If you have an electric oven, turn it off 10 minutes before the food has finished cooking. The oven temperature will remain the same so the food will still cook through to completion without the oven using energy.
  • Thaw any frozen food or leftovers in the fridge before putting them in the oven to save on cooking time.
  • Keep your oven clean and well maintained. For tips and product recommendations for this, check out our oven cleaning article.
