Safety first

Remember, you should always make sure your appliance has been switched off and unplugged from the mains before carrying out any work, repairs or faulty part replacements.

For this process, you will also need to switch off the water supply to your washing machine and disconnect the water inlet pipe from your appliance.

Step 1: Remove the top panel

With your washing machine pulled out and turned around, you will need to remove the top panel. Using your Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws that keep the panel in place at the top back corners. Then slide the panel back and away from the machine before setting it safely to one side.

It's worth noting that you will be removing quite a few screws throughout this process, so make sure you keep them separate with their relevant parts. This will help you remember where they all go when it comes to putting the appliance back together later.

Step 2: Remove the faulty water inlet valve

You will now be able to see the water inlet valve sticking out of the back of the machine, as pictured below.

Then pull the valve out through the back of the machine and disconnect the two jubilee clips keeping the hoses connected to the valve. You may need a pair of pliers to help you remove these clips. You should also place a towel beneath the valve as you do this, as water will likely spill out of the hoses when you disconnect them.

Step 3: Check your new valve for a bracket

When you buy a new water inlet valve, it may or may not come with a metal bracket. This bracket is necessary for securing the valve into place. If you find that your new valve has come without this bracket, you will simply need to transfer the bracket from your old valve onto the new one before fitting it.

Step 4: Fit the new water inlet valve

To start fitting the new water inlet valve, first slot the left pipe onto the left side of the valve and the right pipe onto the right side. You can then secure the pipes by placing the jubilee clips back over the pipes where they meet the valve, using your pliers if necessary.

Next, push the valve back into position through the back of the machine and reconnect the electrical connections. If you took a photo of the connections earlier, you can use it for guidance.
