How to Find Your Washer's Model Number

When you need to find out what is wrong with your washing machine or need to fix or replace parts, it's important to have your model number to hand so you get the correct information and spares to fit your appliance make and model. In this article, we're going to talk you through where to find the model number on your washing machine.

Why is it important to know the model number?

If your washing machine develops a fault and needs a part replacing, having your model number to hand will help you find the correct one. Many spare parts look very similar but they do vary in size and shape so although a part may look like it will fit your machine, it might not be suitable.

Another reason it's important to know your appliance model number is for the safety of your machine. Manufacturers sometimes recall appliances due to safety concerns. When they do this, they will release a series of model numbers so you can check if yours has been recalled. Knowing your model number will mean you can check if your appliance has been affected and if it needs to be replaced. Our video on appliance recalls explains more about these and where you can find them.

How to find the model number on your washing machine step by step

Read the article or watch our how-to video below to find out where to find the model number on your washing machine.

What you're looking for

Your appliance model number will be located on a rating plate or a sticker that contains information about your appliance.

Where to look

Check 1: Behind the door

The first place to look is behind the door. Be sure to check the rim of the door itself and also the rim around the door seal.

Check 2: Kick plate

If your model number is not located on the door, the next thing to check is the kick plate which is located at the bottom of your appliance at the front.

Check 3: Filter flap

Next to the kick plate is the flap that covers the filter. The model number could also be located behind the flap.

Check 4: Sides and back

If you haven't found it in any of these places, check the sides and the back of the machine.

How to interpret the data plate

Once you have found the data plate on your machine, you'll need to know what to look for to find the model number. The format of the model number and the product or serial number varies depending on the manufacturer of the appliance.

The model number will typically be a combination of letters and numbers and also contain special characters such as a dash or a slash. The model number will often be indicated with "Model" or "Mod" in front of it.
