How to Replace the Door Shield and Glass Bowl on a Washing Machine - Hotpoint

The glass bowl and plastic shield allow you to see inside the drum while your laundry sloshes around getting cleaned.

Over time the shield and glass may discolour, perish and even become cracked or damaged - when this occurs you could be left with a ticking time bomb. If the glass is damaged, it could only get worse if it not replaced.

Luckily here at eSpares we can not only supply the parts you need but also advise you how to replace it. This simple step by step guide will help you through removing the old door parts and replace it with a new one.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

  What You Will Need:

  Step 1 - Safety Advice

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair

Step 2 - Splitting the Door

To begin you are going to need to remove the door from the machine and to do this - you will need to remove the screws which hold it in place.

With the screws removed you now need to unclip the two trims from each other. These may be a tad fiddly therefore using a flathead screwdriver you can “jimmy” the inner and outer trims apart If the trims are a little stiff and refuse to move then giving the door a little bump should just force them to come apart.

Step 3 - Out With the Old

With the trims apart, you can set them to the side - you will now be able to access the old shield and bowl. If you are replacing both - then these parts can be thrown away as these will no longer be useful.

Step 4 - In With the New

With the new bowl, and the new shield in hand you are ready to fit them and reassemble your door. The shield fits inside the bowl. There will be a hook which needs to match up with the lip on the bowl - this should just sit in place.

Step 5 - Putting the Pieces Back Together

Now taking both parts these can be put back in the inner door trim. Ensure that you match the lip and the hook up to the locating hole which is on the door trim. Once done, grab the outer door trim and fit this back on the rest of the door.

With that all changed over you can now put everything back together following the disassembly process backwards.
