  It helps. In my case I was trying to clean up a machine which had not been used for some time, had extensive black film on the hidden insides of the machine, and really smelt v bad. Using the machine made my washing smell the same. Repeated v hot washes with washing soda, this stuff, some bleach, (not all at the same time) and scrubbing out all accessible innards with bottle brushes also required. Finally got it to an acceptable state. Then the heating element blew.

  I have used this product for years, and have to assume it does what it says. I have started using in dishwasher, and it leaves it very sparkly and clean looking. I do use once a month, and believe it to be doing some good for appliance, and reduces build up of deposits.
