Having watched the video it gave me a good idea what I was letting myself in for and how to proceed. The replacement was slightly different with a tag on it but it fitted OK. Ideal if you are in a workshop, however I was in the kitchen. As mentioned previously another pair of hands is helpful when putting the inner spring retainer on. I was on my own, Aaaaah! More than happy when I eventually finished. Worth having a go though.

Viewing the 'how to fit' video helped but on my machine the front panel wasn't removeable. This made the task a little harder and an extra pair of hands will help when refitting the inner spring.Overall very pleased with the result (wife very happy too)!

Really easy to find the correct item for my washer on the website and the item was delivered quickly. Having read some of the reviews reference the difficulties in fitting, I was a little cautious before starting the job. My washer was also one of the ones on which the front panel cannot be removed so access is quite restricted. Having carefully removed what I could to gain access to the front of the drum taking a few photos with my phone for reference, it's best to familiarise yourself with how the old door seal fits to the washer as there are numerous folds and flanges to the seal and it's quite difficult to work out which one goes where. The old door seal is very easily removed. This is where you need some patience; having familiarised yourself with how the seal fits to the washer, I found it best to start at the top from inside the washer and work round both sides of the drum to the bottom working blind most of the time. It becomes quite easy to feel how it fits eventually (but be patient and don't rush!) Having fitted the rear of the seal first, make sure it still the correct way up with the drain holes at at the bottom, then fit the rear seal retainer. Depending on the seal retaining devices for your washer, you may need an additional pair of hands. Fitting the front of seal from the front of the washer is fairly straightforward, just make sure it’s not twisted before fitting the front retainer. Check the seal all the way round front and back to make sure it's seated properly before you put everything back in place. Double check hoses etc or you could end with a flood! Run a couple of rinse cycles to bed-in the seal and check for leaks. My new seal has been in place for a couple of weeks now and works a treat, no more dirty washes or smelly utility room, a happy wife and 100 quid up not having to get an engineer out! The door seal performed exactly as expected. I can see why the fitter in the video chose to demonstrate on a machine that the front came off. Those of us stuck with an all welded case had to improvise. Nevertheless, it worked.

After old seal was mouldy managed to fit this new one with the help of espares video, but didn't need to remove top and front of machine - reading other reviews the front cover doesn't come off Indesits anyway. Outer holding band is easy to refix as it is accessible. Inner one not so easy - just a case of starting at one point and working your way round.

Fitting not as easy as shown on video due to the my machine having a large, awkward spring fitted instead of one that is adustable as in video

Can't believe I managed to change the washing machine seal myself thanks to espares video. 19 September 2012
it was a bit of a challenge but I was determined to save money and change the seal myself. I watched the video and followed the steps carefully. Fair enough the video took a few minutes and I took two and a half hours but did it matter- no, not one bit. Not the job some people would expect a female to do but I was determined not to have to pay expensive call out fees for something I was happy to attempt. Now my brother who has the same type of washing machine has asked for step by step instructions and tips on how to do it.
