Usual good service 23 February 2014

Item exactly as expected. Someone else fitted it for me as I am in my late 70's, but he seemed to have no trouble and finished in good time. This item was out of stock when first ordered but I was kept informed as to dispatch and have no complaints whatsoever. I expect nothing else from espares - one of the best companies I shop with.

Hotpoint door seal 19 February 2014

After watching your video I was feeling confident too fit this seal. The only problem was the front panel is welded on so fitting the wasn't easy.

    Easy fit 09 January 2014

Bought this to replace my mouldy door seal, stripped the old one off night before to make sure it was the same as new one before ordering. New one arrived and didnt want to wait for husband to fit it so I had a go (washing was piled high). Watched the videos but they only showed washers that the front comes off, ours doesn't, fitted the seal on inner drum before fitting inner spring band, found if you coat your hands with talc it helps your hands slide over the rubber seal as you stretch the spring. It was easy with the help of the talc, if a woman a can do it anyone can and it saves money by doing it yourself.

Great 'tip' with the talc and well done on completing a job some can struggle with.

    Works well. 05 January 2014

Firstly don't expect the fitting to work out like it does on the video. My machine did not come to bits the way I expected it to. The front panel was welded on. This it seems is the norm rather than the exception. Therefore the fitting video is more or less redundant. Secondly, the seal looks slightly different from the original that was on my machine, which was a bit disconcerting. It does however fit fine. I had to fit it through the door with the top panel removed. Did it as follows. Use the video to see how to remove the front seal retainer (face of machine), first noting how the seal is located on the rim. Have a good look how the seal is placed on the drum (inside the machine). Next pull out the old seal through the door opening. This releases a big spring which connects it to the drum part. (mine was not a saw tooth retainer as described on the video) Now tilt machine back and sit it on something to make the drum swing back a bit to give better access. Now the fiddly bit is to gradually work the seal over the lip of the drum. This is not too hard if you take your time. Second pair of hands useful here. Next locate the spring in the groove at the bottom and feed it around the sides and stretch it over the top edge. (extra pair hands good to stop spring slipping out) Lastly feed seal through door opening and relocate on ridge on face of machine. Refit retainer. Good luck!

    Disapointing outcome 29 December 2013

Super service, product fine. disapointment is that the front of our washing machine hotpoint [ HVL241] could not be removed,{welded in place] This made the fitting of the seal extremely difficult, and the fitting of the retaining spring impossible.Result had to buy a new washing machine.

Sorry you had difficulty and were unable to replace the seal, as a domestic appliance engineer I have struggled on occasion but always managed to replace the seal even through the porthole. Unfortunately many manufacturers use a 'welded' cabinet due to cost and this does make things difficult at times. We post this review to advise others but hope we don't put everyone off this as it can be done by many but perhaps not by all.

Good seal but hard to fit 10 December 2013

The youtube video dealing with a Hotpoint door seal has little relevance to the WMF540P (UK) model. The front does not come off (welded to the case) so the seal has to be fitted through the front aperture. This was a struggle and needed an extra hand at times to refit the inner retaining spring. It would be good to see a video of fitting for this model. The seal itself is fine and fits well and has cured the weeping from the door itself.

Relatively easy to fit... 26 November 2013

...but our model wasn't exactly the same as that in the video clip. Our front panel was welded, aand not removable which made replacing the door seal more awkward - especially with large hands in small spaces! Think we've succeeded!

Not as easy as it looked 17 October 2013

There were significant differences between the machine we own & the one used as an example in the video - eventually we had to call in a professional who also struggled mightily to fit the thing
