  Only disappointed for 10 seconds... 20 February 2009

  When I unwrapped it I just didn't get it, It was too big for my vac's tube....until I realised why its called the universal! You turn its screw fitting to make it fit your tube, and what genius came up with that one. It really works, and (say this quietly) is better than the original because this one you can adjust the height of the brushes for carpet and floor. Thanks again, brilliant piece of kit.

  The actual unit is very well made,good value for money and works well. However, actually getting it to fit our 30mm hose tube caused much scratching of heads (no instructions)as it appeared to be much too big. Eventually it dawned on us that you push the rubber grommit into the fitting and then insert the metal tube into the grommit through the large ferrule. A tight fit is not effected until you screw the ferrule down. Easy when you know how! We nearly sent it back!

  Whe no instructions? A simple sheet - even just a diagram - would have helped as the fitting isn't a straightforward 'force-it' fitting like all the other tools for my hoover. It took me some time and sweat to work out. Having said that, it stays on once you get it fitted properly. The quality is questionable - why doesn't the slot that sucks up the dirt go all the way across the tool? Instead it only covers a few inches of the centre and thus one has to stop regularly to clean the brushes around the outside edges as there's nowhere for the dust and fluff to go and they get clogged. The brushes themselves are rather stiff to make vacuuming carpets anything but a struggle - unless the brush setting is meant for floors and the flat setting for carpets? How is one to know without instructions? It isn't self-evident from the performance of the tool itself. Generally it seems sturdy enough but a bit clunky for small spaces and the universal joint is almost as much of an impediment as it is an aid.
