    Good idea, but ...... ? 09 February 2016

I cannot comment on how effective these are because they are noisy in use, and I had to abandon them. Noisy with a small load, I tried with a dryer full of towels. They were still noisy - could even hear them in the lounge. Some reviewers said they get quieter as they get warm, but how long does that take? They could be very good, and worth trying if your dryer is in the garage.

Not sure about these 27 September 2014

I tried these for the first time today although my wife used them yesterday. They may have saved energy, they may have left the garments softer (I never use fabric softener anyway) but they may also have caused more wear, judging by the amount of fluff in the filter of both my wash and my wife's. Since I have started washing my corduroys on wool cycle (as instructed on the label) along with all my other clothes I have been delighted that they no longer loose their pile with age. My wife always used to put them in the general 40C wash cycle before that. The the wool cycle does a lot less churning so perhaps does less mechanical damage to the clothes. While my assessment of the amount of fluff in the filter after drying is rather subjective and I cannot be certain after such a limited test, the effect might well be expected. I will not be using the hedgehog balls again. My wife can use them on her stuff if she likes. The balls make a lot of noise bashing around in the drier but I doubt they could do any damage other than to my delicate clothes.

Not so energy saving ! 21 January 2012

The positive was the ease of use. The downsides were I did not see any reduction in drying time or improvement in fabric softness. What I did find was a lot of dents in the dryer drum. The dryer balls make a loud noise during operation, and the result of the banging around is a damaged and dented drum. I have stopped using them.

    dryer balls 25 June 2010

didn't make any difference to drying time or softness, very noisy in drum, a waste of money.
