  Having decided to go for this less expensive option (instead of forking out for a genuine Neff part) I now suffer the consequences. The washing machine now constantly reports F12 (flood alert) because the new door seal fitted in April has disintegrated along the inner seam every 3 inches around the circumference and is letting water out of the system into the base of the unit. Coping right now by keeping the unit out on the floor and tipping it over to drain the water for each washing "trip". Time to look at reaching deeper into my pockets and getting a seal that might last the distance.

  While there may be differences between a genuine seal and a patent part I would not expect this to cause the problem you appear to be experiencing. Modern door seals are made of synthetic rubber and do not perish under normal conditions. Could it be you are using something that is 'damaging' the seal. I have come across 'swollen' seals bloated by creams used for eczema and seals damaged by excess bleaching products.
