I have used my drain cleaner to unblock a 2-3" soakaway pipe. it has cleared the obstruction but i am unable to retrieve the pipe as it appears to have stuck fast.... any ideas has anybody experienced a similar problem. at the moment I am faced with digging up the soakaway to see what has happened

  • Historically probably solved, but previous answers re:- where the end of the hose is located seem like overly-complicated solutions. For example.... If it's a 7.5 mtr hose & you have 4 mtrs from the access-point to the lance...the nozzle is 3.5 mtrs from the access-point... Ummmm?? More importantly, which direction? Marks on the hose won't help with that! You need sight of the next access-point which is not relevant for a soakaway. By Dave. - (Hampshire Pedant) - 22 January 2016
  • An interesting point about snagging the hose and not being able to withdraw it. I'll mark my hose at 0.5 metre intervals so at least I have an idea of where to dig if this happens. By Anonymous - Cardiff - 30 September 2014

It is possible that either debris in the pipe or a collapse of the pipe has trapped the hose. You could try to use another drain cleaner or rods to release it. This may help to identify the distance to the obstruction so reduce the amount of digging in the event you cannot release it.

Hi Chorizofan, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I've contacted Karcher who have told me that both kits fit all domestic washers. This has been corrected now, so you can order in confidence!

As long as there are no bends in the downpipe it should be suitable, also make sure you have enough length in the hose to reach the top.

This item would be suitable for a range of uses but is not likely to go round multiple bends on aa 1 1/2 inch diameter pipe.

Answer this question

There is a 90 degree bend in the pipe going under the floor and outside. Access is quite limited.

This will easily push through a 4 inch drain 90 degree bend but may need to be 'helped' by just feeding the hose in as it works along the pipe.

It sounds like the end has got blocked possibly from corrosion of the small jets. Unscrew the tip and confirm the hose is good before trying to clear the jets.

These can be used on any domestic pressure washer only if you can obtain an adapter to convert it from your gun to a Karcher bayonet fitting.

Answer this question

Is the drain hose flexible enough to go round the "s" bend of the toilet and down toward the blockage a couple of feet into the main drain.

This kit is not really designed to go around the U bend as these can be quite tight especially on some modern toilets. However because you will be close to the bend you could manually 'help it by pushing so may be able to travel down the pipe sufficiently to clear a blockage near the end of the pipe.

To release the lance push it 'in' to the gun and then twist to unlock and remove. If you cannot do this you may need to replace the gun assembly.

This will fit any Karcher gun that uses a bayonet fitting on the lance.
