Bought a replacement element fitted it and the oven does now heat up however it doesn’t seem to be getting a very high temperature

You need to check if the thermostat is cycling the temperature which brings the element on and off, the only other way is to do a temperature test inside the oven.

Answer this question

I have double oven, top oven works but main fan oven, light comes on , fan goes round but no heat- I’m guessing the element will have gone ( my initial thought until I looked on here and people are talking about thermostats!) and help would be much appreciated.

It is likely the element has failed but you can test it with a multimeter to make sure.

The fan motor is likely to be binding and not circulating the air correctly. Replacing it will improve if not eliminate the second problem completely.

Answer this question

The element and fan have started working intermittently, If I leave it turned on after a while they will start to work then they stop again. DO you think a new element will sort it or will I need a fan as well or is it something different.

If on switch on the element starts heating and the fan struggles to turn the problem is likely to be the fan motor and this can cause the element to overheat and fail. Replace the fan motor as soon as possible if this is the case.

If the indicator light comes on when turning the thermostat up then the element is likely to be at fault, but if the light fails to come on then it could be a fault with a cut-out, wiring or the thermostat.

  • Hi, not that I'd call myself an expert, but I've just replaced the element on my oven. For us, the fan came on ok, but, as the element had gone...no heat. If your oven is getting hot, then my educated guess is the element is ok, just the fan has gone .On my cooker the fan sits inside the element and there is no connection between the two (element you can replace from within the oven, the fan , looks like you need to take the back off the cooker).
