On some drum assemblies they have stopped bolting the front and back together and now weld the two parts to reduce the chance of leaking. Unfortunately if you have a welded drum it is not usually possible to replace the bearings as you cannot dismantled the drum and reseal it.

Some model variants use a welded tub like Stock Number: ES1090783. This cannot have bearings replaced.

It suggests Bearings are failing. The drum on your machine is not repairable as it is welded together and cannot be parted and re sealed after bearing replacement. It is likely to be cheaper to have a fixed price repair with Repaircare than replace the drum unit Stock Number: ES871622

Answer this question

Hi. my hotpoint wdd 960 P (UK) C model has a bearing noise. However, after strip down, my repair guy finds that theres no screw fixings to seperate the inner and outer drum. According to the hotpoint website, it is possible to to buy the bearings as a replacement item for this specific model. Can someone please clarify or guide us how to seperate the drums/tub. Thanks in advance.

Answer this question

I am planning to replace the bearings in the machine myself. I wanted to confirm that it can be done on this model. I know which bearing kit is required but will there be any other parts that I could or should replace as I am doing this?

It is advisable to also replace the seals on the drum shaft and the tub seal to prevent leaks and bearing failure.

if it only occurs when the drain pump is running check the filter for coins and debris. Also check if the weights fixed to the drum are loose by shaking the drum when the top is off (remember to unplug first).

It sounds like you may have faulty bearings. Check for any play or movement of the inner drum at the front edge next to the seal. Spin the drum by hand to confirm worn bearings. If this is the case your machine has a welded drum and would require Stock Number: ES871622 to repair it.

Many Hotpoints like the WMF740KUK use a welded drum assembly. It is not possible to replace the bearings on these and you will need a complete drum. Contact REpaircare for a fixed price repair that can be cheaper than the cost of the new drum.

Your machine uses a welded drum and it is not possible to dismantle it and replace the bearings and then re seal it successfully. The only repair possible is a new drum assembly.
