Answer this question

We are in a hard water area but have a topped-up water softener. Our washing machine hadn't had a problem in 9 years, then just died. Could limescale be the problem or does this just 'happen'? Thank you

The heater element may fail as a result of limescale and possibly blow a fuse but the control panel itself is not effected by limescale.

It is possible over time limescale could build up on the drum shaft and slightly wear the seal to accept the thickening. If this were dissolved and removed it could lead to leaking. Therefore this warning has been added.

We have 2 children - on newborn and one 2 years old. Is this product safe for us to use, given that we use sensitive and non-bio washing detergent etc?

The machine will typically do at least one rinse during the cycle to remove any traces of the cleaner so it should not cause any irritation when used separately.

The active ingredient in one sachet of cleaner is only 5 grammes of Sulphamic acid per treatment around 60 grammes per year. A very small amount that would be extremely diluted but you should check advise from your sewage contractor if in doubt.
