Hi, I have a WML540 PUK R machine and the door lock is clicking. All the pictures online and on your site show door locks that are secured by 2 screws, but this lock has no screws.the door lock doesn't appear to slide or clip in/out. is there a Hotpoint lock that clips in?

To remove the old lock press the 'pegs' until they allow the lock to slide away from the porthole and tilt back. On some machines with detachable front panels it may fowl the cabinet , if necessary remove the front to fit.

  • So how do you get the old lock off if it isn't attached by screws? By big kev - Kingsbury, near Tamworth. - 21 January 2014

The door lock according to the manufacturers is Stock Number: ES1016863. This is identical to yours with the exception that it is fitted with two self tapping screws (available from your local car spares supplier if needed).

The rod is usually the emergency door release that connects to the door lock down to the bottom, it releases the lock if the door won't open.

There may be no way to prove which is faulty without substitution and as the main board needs to be programmed by an engineer maybe a good option for you would be to use a repair company like "Repaircare" who offer a fixed price option.

If this was the problem before you started then it is likely to be a control board. These cannot be replaced without programming so if this is the case consider a fixed price repair from Repaircare.

Answer this question

The entire door catch , including the 2 securing screws or plastic plugs, has fallen into the body of the machine. Also, the rubber collar around the circular hole does not have the plastic block which, in your video, is removed with a flat screwdriver. How do I remove this collar and is it the case that the catch was secured by plastic plugs rather than the 2 screws seen in the video ?

The seal is attached by a spring retaining collar. find the end of the spring and use a small screwdriver to lever it off the seal. The lock is secured by the two plastic 'pegs' that will hold in position one the lock has been slid into position.
