Neff Washing machine W5420X0GB will fill, rinse, spin, drain, but as it starts to wash it trips the RCD. Heater has 46KOhm resistance, board unmarked, motor brushes ok. What next - thermostat appears to work but limited reading. Earths are good and unit is approx 24months old.
- RCD's detect earth leakage. So your heater element had a connection to earth. If your Heater is tripping the RCD check resistance between the earth and live, and earth and neutral. Its preferably done with an insulation resistance tester if you have one, otherwise an Ohm Meter.

Hi dotty, the sensor is situated beside the element, underneath the drum of the machine. Check out this video to see in more detail the location of the element in a washing machine: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/washing-machines/a/7/1392/how-a-washing-machine-works.html
