When I turn it off at the main switch, the RCD on the consumer unit trips. Both top oven and main oven neon lights come on as well, but all knobs are off. Looks like a big failure, but any ideas on a fix?

Check the terminal connection box at the back of the oven as these often have links between terminals. If the screws are a little loose they can burn and give poor connections that can cause 'random' faults that link to a common cause.
