Hard Wired Smoke Alarm

Properly installed and maintained, residential smoke alarms are one of the best and least expensive ways to provide an early warning when a fire begins. Smoke alarms save lives, prevent injuries and minimize property damage by alerting residents early to a fire hazard.

The Firex 4870 Smoke Ionisation alarm is suitable for fast-flaming fires and is ideal to be placed on landings and living rooms.

Ionisation Smoke Alarms are for use where a fast flaming fire (for example electrical equipment igniting) is more likely to be a hazard than a slow smouldering one, such as from furniture and bedding.

Do not use in or near to a kitchen or shower room!

I want to replace 2 Firex 120-1123C smoke alarms which have a mains connection and battery. Ideally, I would like to fit the smoke alarms onto the existing base plates. Do the base plates have the same dimensions and the same pin connections?

I've noticed that the current alarms fitted in 2004 say that they should be replaced after 10 years, is this really necessary?

If 10 years replacement is what the manufacturers advise we would suggest you follow this as we are talking about a safety issue hear and it is likely the performance of the unit has degraded during its lifetime and is less sensitive then when new.
