My washer tends to stall mid cycle and get too hot

I set it on 40degrees and it gets stuck there getting hotter and hotter, I have to turn it off and put it on a spin cycle to get it to drain. I suspect that it's a temperature sender unit, do washing machines have these or just individual cut out switches when temperature is attained ?

The water temperature sensor is not telling the board it has reached the correct temperature. If the connections are ok suspect Stock Number: ES467861 at the back of the tub.
