My drier turn off sooner than expected, set timer for 30mins and shuts down after say 15mins with the control knob back to zero.
Is this trouble with the timer?

You have not given the model number of your drier but if it uses this type of timer which has a simple motor and the knob advances to quickly it can only be a faulty timer.
