How do you remove the fixings

The fixings on the terminal plate of my cooker element are different. One is a phillips self tapping screw but the other is a very slim headed bolt with a head approx 1mm thick. I cant get any purchase on this to remove it. Any ideas how to remove?

  • I had the same problem. It is necessary to pull the oven out, remove the screws and take off the back plate. Obviously you have switched off at the supply point. You can then get access to a nut and undo it. I replaced my element with an M4 bolt. Make sure you fit the earthing wire when you put the washer and nut back on. Good luck. • I assume 1mm thick means the depth not the width of the head. It could be a countersunk screw. Assuming you have enough room, try using a good pair of "Mole Grips" to get the screw started. If all else fails, try tapping with a centre punch at a 60 degree tangent, and replacing the screw By ElectricalEngineer - - 16 December 2009
