Is the electronic controller the likely cause of the machine taking about 2 hours to do a 40min wash.
All the filters are clean and the pump is clean and free and the impeller is tight on the motor shaft

Check the time it takes to complete the wash part of the cycle before it rinses. if this is 20 mins approx the heater is OK, but if sometimes it take a long time to complete the spin make sure you balance the wash load see: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/7/2401 and How to Diagnose Washing Machine Control and Program Problems http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/7/1793
