- Carbon filters are still a good idea because any grease in the cooking vapours will accrue in the ducting. I'm about to buy a set because it's already happening to my new extractor. I dishwashered the filters on my old unit every now and then when they got grease build up. They take a bit of drying though.

A carbon filter is unnecessary as any smells will quickly disperse.
