The scientific consensus is that magnets have no measurable effect on water. I really, really wish this was not the case, but nobody has proved it works. It's not a conspiracy by the makers of anti-scale techniques which do work. Please, someone, prove me wrong, I beg you!!!
- I don't know about "scientific consesus". There are several studies that have support the theory, that there is a change in the aragonite/calcite ratio when water passes through a static magnetic field. Calcite is the stuff that sticks to surfaces, aragonite, not so much. I'd rather say "inconsesus" :) Journal of Water Process Engineering Volume 9, February 2016: "In the pilot network, magnetic field decreased calcium scaling by 15% in the both studied piping materials..." Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials Volume 209, Issues 1–3, February 2000: "Carbonates formed by heating water containing ≈120 mg(Ca)/l are characterized by X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. Tests on 32 pairs of samples establish, at the 99.9% probability level, that drawing water through a static magnetic field (B≈0.1T, ∇B≈10 T/m) increases the aragonite/calcite ratio in the deposit..." Just my two cents, tho don't believe everything you read ;)

We would not recommend use with a shower, as it is only listed for washing machines and tumble dryers.
Reason, we have hardish water and there is a setting on the tumble dryer which has to be set at low, med, high. Would this need to be changed.

It prevents limescale forming but may not fully soften the water.

Hi margaret, this product is recommended for use on individual appliances rather than the mains supply.
- Easy answer is yes. Plumbing it in maybe a little more difficult as it is designed to be plumbed into a washing machine or dishwaher hose conection.
Is this a universal fitting ? There was one review that said there is a washer needed or it will leak? can this be confirmed if so what washer would I need.
- This fits the usual washing machine or dishwasher water input pipe. The two washers provided work well and both may not be needed depending on the hose conection. I have fitted two of these both by hand only and neither have leaked.
Can the neocal anti limescale device be attached directly to the appliance rather than the tap? It would then be reversed in line. Is this OK. 1 Answer

No the device is designed to be attached to the tap, and the appliance is then attached to the other way. This means that the limescale is broken down before the water enters your appliance.
