i have Hotpoint TC71N needs new thermostats ...but no idea how to find date code ... description says IMPORTANT 64 or 65

By daleyt - France - 06 May 2014
  • After phoning you I discovered that the date code is the first 2 characters of the serial number, in my case 78101179. This makes mine 78 which is later than 64/65 so the parts should be OK. The serial number is inside the drum on the left. By Chris - UK - 23 December 2014

Hi Duggles, it sounds as if you need to give the condenser box a clean. Check out the last question on this page for help: http://www.letsfixit.co.uk/html/tumble_dryer_faq.html

The thermostat with the green spot has a raised part between the two connectors that will be the same as the original.

Cleaning the thermostat will not usually affect whether it is faulty or not.

If stopped when hot the thermal cut out will fail, you must ensure the machine is allowed to finish a cycle or it will cause the cut out to fail.

If there is no sign of damage to the heater it is likely the thermostat has failed. This could be checked with a meter like: Stock Number ES1741061 for continuity.
