It is most likely the element if every other function works correctly. This needs to be fitted by a qualified engineer. The element  for your model is ES185799.

i have recently changed thermostats on whirlpool dryer awz541 but still overheating could it now be heating element

Hi Raz, you were right to change the thermostats first, they are the most likely cause of an overheating dryer. It could be the element which is damaged - perhaps an electrical fault. If you smell electrical burning, then switch off straight away and don't use - call an engineer or consider a new dryer. When it's an electrical fault like that it is dangerous for an unqualified person to mess around with it.

Hi Trevie, I;m afraid I can't match your model number in our database of Whirlpool dryers. Is it possible for you to double check? For help finding it, use our guide: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/tumble-dryers/a/9/119/finding-your-tumble-dryer-model-number.html

  • Hi, Its a 60/40 chance on either being the problem. Bear in mind the part has 2 x thermo fuse attached to the element, and a simple continuity test will tell you if its these, or check the resistance on the element to confirm it. Either way you have to buy the part complete... If you find no problems on the element or attached thermal fuses, Make sure you check the thermal fuse on the exhast outlet, before ordering, as if its this, it can be more expensive to repair. Hi Daveboy Without actually seeing your Whirlpool AWZ220 tumble dryer, it is impossible to tell what is causing this problem. What I would advise is talking to your local Whirlpool or tumble dryer specialist and they should be able to diagnose the problem for you. And that's where we come in! With hundreds of Whirlpool spares, we're bound to have the part for you.

  • If the drum rotates and the fan blows air when the dryer is switched on, then it's the heater element. The unit includes the thermostats, so it is an easy swap. You can get instructions by Googling - there are a few sites that tell you what to do, but basically, you unplug it and take off the back, undo the bolts and slide it out. My only tip would be to leave all the wires in place until you have the replacement ready to go in as they all look alike and need to go back on the right connectors.
