If the freezer is working then it is unlikely to be the thermostat but meter the thermostat to confirm, if the thermostat is ok then it may be the refrigerant system.

Answer this question

I installed the part in my fridge but now I have gotten from +10 till -5 in the fridge. Tried both max and min on the thermostat but it is till the same. Anyone have any good answer to this?

Check you have connected the wires correctly as there is one switch to the light and another to the compressor.

Answer this question

During the recent cold spell, my freezer wasn't completely freezing the items in it, and they started to soften, and there was hardly any frost on the coils. I moved the internal light switch in the fridge compartment so that the light remained on, i.e. there was warmth under the thermostat, and the compressor then switched on and off normally, and the freezer froze the items as it should, and frost built up on the coils. Is this an indication that the thermostat is defective ? If so, will this thermostat fit a Whirlpool ARC5553 / 850155515101 ?

In your instruction book it will tell you that as this appliance only monitors fridge temperature that if in a cold environment the freezer may defrost as the fridge does not need to come on as often. It will also tell you that by turning on the internal light it will introduce a little warmth inside and turn the compressor on more often helping keep the freezer frozen. This fridge freezer like many should be in a warm kitchen not a cold utility or unheated area and is not faulty.

This suggests either a loss of refrigerant or an insulation problem. This would require a systems engineer to re gas it.

Answer this question

My fridge's automatic defrost is not working - frost quickly builds up on the rear wall.

This is likely to cure your problem if the compressor is running continuously and the fridge temperature is below 1 degree. If the ice is only at the top of the wet wall they system may be low in gas or a weak compressor (expensive and not DIY repairable),or if the capillary has become detached from the wet wall (you can not check this) then the appliance may not be repairable.

If the light inside works but the compressor is cold and not running it may indicate you need to replace this part. If the compressor is hot then this is not your problem.

Hi there, it's likely that the thermostat is the problem, although it could be the seal too. First make sure that the seal is sealing fully all the way round the door when you close the fridge - if it isn't, you'll need a new seal. If your seal is OK, remove the temperature control knob and replace - it could be the knob has come loose. If that doesn't work, then it's probably the thermostat that's gone.

Answer this question

The fridge light comes on, the bottom two freezer draws work perfectly well, but the fridge isn't cooling anything (and the top freezer draw below the fridge is not more than chilling food). Is it probably a new thermostat that I need? Thanks for your help.
