Remove the two screws at the back then thump the front edge with the base of your hand to push it back and unhook from the rest of the machine.

Answer this question

I have exactly the same problem with the door seal going black and on investigation there is black slime under the door seal. I have been running most programs at 30degrees and this is obviously the problem. I have since run boil washes with vinegar and soda crystals but haven't managed to get rid of the sludge.......nothing for it but a new seal. If I get the seal and the retainer is there anything else I need to get to replace the seal? And is this a relatively easy and straightforward operation or is a degree in washing machine maintenance required?

Hi Anon, Your old fitting band should work with this door seal. Our video guide to fitting a washing machine door seal might help give you an idea of what this task involves: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/washing-machines/a/7/1181/replacing-a-washing-machine-door-seal.html Also - to help the mould from building up we would recommend occasionally doing a wash at higher temperatures. Our limescale and detergent remover should also help to some extent: http://www.espares.co.uk/limescale-detergent-remover

Hi Sar39, I really wouldn't expect for your seal to go black so quickly! I'm assuming that this might be mould? You may be able to treat this with white vinegar. Mould is often caused by debris being left in the rubber ring which causes the water to not drain properly. Additionally if you're always running loads at 30 degrees then the bacteria that likes to thrive in the ring will flourish. In the future make sure you run a hot water load with powder every so often and then leave the washing machine door open to dry.
