Based on the answer to the first question I understand the wires just push in to the socket but how do you remove them from the existing sockets so they can be re-used? Do they just pull out? If I cut the wires and strip new ends, they become too short. If I use new wire I have to solder it to the PCB. Any ideas please?

The wire can usually be removed by carefully pushing a small nail or large hat pin into the wire entry to release the existing wire.

The light socket may just clip in place. The electrical wires are held in place using push fittings. The wires simply are stripped to expose the single copper core for 10 mm approx and just pushed into the appropriate hole were they are automatically gripped in position.
