I have taken the baskets out of the machine and run it empty, it still makes a noise as if it is catching on something.

Either the arm 'sprays' are blocked causing it to be out of balance or the bearing on the pivot is worn allowing excess movement.
My lower spray arm does nota appear to screw into anything, do I need a new arm or holder

If you enlarge the second image on the product you will see the nut on the bottom of the arm has four locking lugs that hold the spray arm in place. If these have been broken on yours then this is the part to replace.
