Washing Machine Door Interlock

This safety interlock tells the machine when it is safe to allow the door to open and close. If your washing machine is refusing to start, or the door will not open or close, you may need to replace the door interlock.

Not only does this lock ensure the door is firmly closed, but it also works as a safety feature, by preventing the washer from running if the door is not securely shut.

With help from eSpares, you can soon be back to a safe and fully working washing machine again, so the pile of laundry does not start to stack up for you!

Ref Ji's 'answer' as per my previous comments substitution is the quickest and most effective way of proving especially with an intermittent fault on mains electricity.

  • LG 1403 FD Washing machine le fault could it be the door lock keeps cutting out half way through cycle By Ji - Penicuik - 30 December 2014

The only effective way to fully test a door lock is to have it connected and 'activated' so it closes and connects the contacts by thermal action. So in principle it could be done but would involve live testing something we would strongly advise against.

Sorry to disagree with Mikes answer but a door lock will not usually make a machine dead and the display will usually light if faulty but the machine would not 'start' any cycle.

  • Yes if the lock is faulty program cycles will not start as the machine will think the door is open, although you will get power to the machine regardless. To be sure your switch is faulty, test it with a digital multimeter before buying. By Mike - London - 01 December 2013

The door lock would not cause problems with the spin, check the filter and if OK test the motor.
