  • From very recent experience water spewing out of the powder dispenser could also be a blocked filter, which Hotpoint don't mention in the machine instructions. Filter found at back of WMA74, behind panel at bottom of machine and then you will see pump with feeds in and out. Undo two metal screw clips on large black pipe and the plastic clip connector to the pump, it all should come apart fairly easily. Clean out plastic bowl and replace! Yes that is a possibility, however not the only possible reason for this. Theis page may be of help: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/washing-machines/a/7/30/common-washing-machine-faults.html#leaking

Answer this question

Washer refuses to drain! Despite no blockages, anywhere, new pump and kink free sump hose, the only way the pump will activate is if I squeeze the sump hose mid cycle; this seems to trigger the pump into action and the cycle continues. Without this intervention, the washer eventually just stops with the drum full of water. Help!!!

The sump hose Stock Number: ES487846 contains an 'Eco ball' to ensure detergent does not drop into the sump when filling and stays in the drum. If this Eco ball is sticking the pump may not be able to drain the water.
