  • It may seem obvious but turn off the iron and wait for it to cool first. The boiler cap screws into the side of the unit and has a (pink) plastic covering over it so you don't burn yourself when using the iron. This gets really hot in use. Overtime the plastic can crack and just come away from the brass leaving it spinning and impossible to remove to empty/rinse or fill the machine. You need to either break the plastic off with a pair of pliers or if cracked use a medium size screwdriver to split the plastic open and pull it off revealing a nut. Then use an adjustable spanner or pliers on the nut to undo the screw, then dispose of in the bin. Order a new part from espares. Job done!!! 😀 By Daz_a_boy - Herts - 18 February 2014

Try your local hardware or DIY store for a strap wrench to help arthritis suffers remove bottle tops. with this you may be able to provide enough purchase to unscrew and remove the top.

Answer this question

I have a GV8330 which has an anti-calc, scale collecting "boiler cap" that looks identical to the one shown in the picture. Is this one really incompatible?

When we say a part is 'incompatible' it simply means that we have no information that it would fit on your appliance. Many parts are not exclusive to one manufacturer as switches and motors for example may be sourced and supplied to many manufacturers. This may fit your item but we do not have any information to say it does. We do accept returns (subject to our published conditions).
