During the fill this valve opens and closes continuously as a result the dishwasher only partially fills.could this valve be faulty?
If I put water in the dishwasher during its fill it washers so it is functioning correctly.

The fault you describe is often caused by grease build up in the hose filling the sump causing the water to back up triggering an overfill signal. Try using a cleaner like Stock Number ES1566874 a time or two before suspecting a 'fault'.
