I bought this tool, but can't work out what the top slider does. Anyone have any clues?

We believe the slider adjusts the air bypass to control the power from the airflow delivered to the brush bar. The air flow is reduced on deep pile carpet the brush may stop, On hard floor more air can be drawn through the cleaning gap.
