I have rec'd this repl. part and it is a different shape. I was going to use existing wiring and connectors but the new part does't show which is N terminal and which the L terminal. Can I assume they are in the same position relative to the old part?

Double check you have ordered the correct part for your model. If this is a replacement turn it to the off position and measure with a meter on resistance. You should get a reading between two connections in the off position. The elements should be across these two and the power should connect to the other two connections.
