Why Is My Dishwasher Not Drying The Dishes?

A working dishwasher has become a norm in most modern kitchens and is designed to make your life a little easier. After enjoying your favourite meal, the thought of scrubbing the grease and food off your cutlery and dishes can be really off-putting.

So if you’ve found the dishwasher isn’t drying the dishes, it could be that a faulty heating element is the culprit. Following our advice below, you can resolve the problem and soon be back to tackling the dirty dishes that may be piling up!

Cause 1

Heating Element

Dishwashers generally dry by heating the dish load and washing with very hot water, then draining it and filling the base with cold water to allow the steam to condense into the water.

The dishwasher empties the leftover water and beeps to indicate when you are ok to open the door. If opened when the dishes are hot, any remaining water should evaporate from your cutlery.

Please Note: Some plastic articles may not dry thoroughly as they do not retain the heat long enough to help the water to evaporate.

Safety First! Please ensure that you have disconnected the appliance from the mains before starting any repair.

  • Check the wash load as this may be a good indication that the heater has not come on during the drying phase.
  • Check the heating element is working by using a multimeter. You can see us using one of these here

If the element is faulty there is no need to panic, luckily we have a large range of replacement elements available on the eSpares website.
