How to Replace The Heating Element In A Tumble Dryer

If you are finding that your tumble dryer is not heating up, then the likely cause is a faulty or damaged element. The element plays a key part in the functioning of your tumble dryer, as this is what provides the heat to ultimately dry your clothes. If it is not working correctly, then your clothes can remain damp.

If you need to replace the heating element for your tumble dryer,  then you will be pleased to know that you have come to the right place! We’ll talk you through how to successfully replace the heating element without damaging your tumble dryer.

eSpares Top Tip - When replacing the element, we also recommend to replace the thermostats too.

Actually in this video, we are using a Bosch condenser tumble dryer - and for this model (and some other models), you actually won’t be able to replace the element without replacing the thermostats and wiring attached (due to the heater being pre-assembled as part of a heater element assembly)

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

What you will need:

Step 1 - Safety First

Safety First! Please make sure that you have switched your appliance off at the mains before starting your repair.

Step 2 - Remove The Back Panel

Off with the back panel now…to do this you need to remove the screws, using a torx head screwdriver. With the panel off you will now have the heater assembly clearly in view.

Step 3 - Remove The Heater Assembly

Off with the heater assembly now…simply remove the two screws holding the element in place, and also the one holding the connector in place too. When taking the connector off, make sure the two wires don’t get lost - if they fall back into the dryer, you’ll have to take off the side panel to get them back.

Step 4 - Fit The New Heater Assembly

Time for the tumble dryer to meet its new heater assembly! All you need to do is clip the new one in place, reconnect the wires and place the connector back in and then screw it all up again. To finish you need to screw the rear panel back on your tumble dryer - and there you go, all done!

Now that wasn't too hard to fix, right? - you have successfully been able to replace the heating element on your tumble dryer! You can now get back to swiftly drying your clothes again, without having to drag them outside.
