How to Replace A Heater Element On An Indesit Washer Dryer

If your washer dryer isn't drying correctly or it's displaying an error code relating to the dryer heating element, you will need to replace the element.

If you are unsure where to start, there’s no need to panic. We’ll talk you through how to successfully replace the heater element without damaging your washing machine or calling the professionals.

This video shows an example on how to remove or replace the part on a typical machine, some models may be different but the procedure should be similar.

What You Will Need:

Step 1 - Safety Advice

Safety First! Please make sure that you have switched your appliance off at the mains before starting your repair.

Step 2 - Remove The Top Of The Appliance

To do this all you need to do is remove the screws at the back. With the top panel out of the way, you now need to unscrew the bracket going across the top of the machine so that you are able to gain access.

Step 3 - Remove The Heater Tunnel

The dryer heater itself is located in the heater tunnel, and to gain access to that you need to split this open. This is opened by removing the door seal from the heater tunnel, removing all electrical connections and then undoing the screws that keep it together.

The best way to remove the door seal is from the bottom of the heater tunnel.  Ease it off with two hands and you can then reuse the cable tie, saving you the replacement.

Now with the door seal removed, you can proceed to disconnect the electrical connections - just a note to say that these can be very stiff so you will need to be gentle.

Step 4 - Split The Heater Tunnel

With the electrical connectors disconnected you can now unscrew and split open the heater tunnel, once the last screw is out you will be able to separate the heater tunnel, and at this point you will then have the elusive dryer heater firmly in your sights.

Step 5 - Replace The Heating Element

Simply unscrew the screw that holds the element in position, and replace with your new one. Then simply re-screw it back to the heater tunnel. Once screwed into position you can replace the top of the heater tunnel (making sure that the seal at the back fits into its housing correctly).

Then refit the heater tunnel in position and you can now refit the door seal around the heater tunnel, and the electrical connections.

Step 6 - Reattach The Bracket And Top Panel

At this stage you are able to reuse the cable tie and to do so simply use a small flathead screwdriver to push against the clasp. Take a pair of pliers to make sure the cable tie is securely in position, and then reattach the bracket and the top of the appliance to finish off.

Hey there you go - all done! You will now be able to start on the growing pile of laundry that has been on hold since your heating element became faulty.
