Safety first!
Remember, always make sure your appliance is switched off and fully unplugged from the mains before carrying out any work.
Step 1: Drain the emergency drain hose
To access the pump filter, simply open the small pump filter cover at the bottom corner of the front of your machine. You will be able to see the filter behind it.
Before removing the filter for cleaning and inspection, you'll need to pull out and empty the emergency drain hose that can be found next to the filter. There may be some water spillages when you do this, so first make sure you have a towel laid down beneath the filter.
Get a small container at the ready to catch any water. Then carefully remove the cap at the end of the emergency hose, keeping the hose pointed upwards to prevent any premature spillages. Place your container beneath the hose, then tilt the hose down to empty it into the container. Once fully drained, you can refit the cap back into the end of the emergency drain hose and push the hose back into the machine.
Step 2: Remove, clean and inspect the pump filter
To remove the filter for inspection, simply grab and twist the circular filter cap then pull it out of the machine. To clean the filter, just run it under a cold tap until it's clean (scrubbing with a cloth if necessary) before thoroughly drying it with a towel. If the filter is damaged in any way, however, you will need to purchase a new one.
Before refitting the filter, you're also going to want to make sure the filter housing is clean too. Look inside the housing you removed the filter from and inspect it for any dirt, grime or stuck debris. To clean the housing, use a small dry brush to scrub it, then finish by giving the housing a thorough wipe down with a damp, wrung-out cloth.
Step 3: Refit the pump filter
With either your original pump filter now cleaned, or with your new pump filter if you needed to replace your old one, you can new refit the filter. To do this, slot the filter back into the housing and turn it until it's firmly in place.
Then finish off by drying the area around the filter with a towel. Once dry, you can go ahead and close the filter cover.
