Hi, I'm Josh from eSpares.

Steam cleaning is becoming an increasingly popular way of cleaning your home, because not only is it simple and effective, it's also very eco-friendly.

Steam cleaners work in a really simple way. Just fill them with normal tap water, which is boiled internally using a super heater, this produces steam which comes out the wand, which can be adapted for cleaning different areas of your home using various attachments available.

So, in this video, I'm going to demonstrate some of the benefits of steam cleaning. I'm going to be using the Karcher SC1020 which is a great little unit, because not only is it light weight and portable, it's also got a range of various specialist attachments available for it. So, let's get started.

As you use your kitchen for preparing and cooking food, it tends to be really great at harbouring dirt and bacteria. Fortunately we can use steam cleaning to effectively eliminate a lot of this. One of the places for the toughest stains in the kitchen is the oven. Let’s have a look at how we can use steam cleaning to get your oven looking spotless.

The combination of the round head brush and the detail nozzle is great for cleaning the grime off the inside of a dirty oven door, because you're going to get a lot of water building up as a result of using the steam cleaner it's a good idea to use a cloth to wipe the excess as you go.

Now I've managed to get rid of some of the softer stains, I'm going to try swapping the brush for a harder one. Now that's all done we can move on to the outside of the door, for this the best attachment to use is the hand nozzle, which I've also covered with a terry cloth. This attachment works really well for any glossy surface.

Now that's looking much better, let's take a look inside the oven. While we don't recommend that you use your steam cleaner for cleaning the inside of the oven cavity because it can cause problems, you can definitely use it for cleaning any shelves or baking trays which might have some stubborn stains on them.

If you've got an electric hob, such as this one, you can steam clean it using a combination of the detail nozzle and the hard brush – make sure though, you do turn the hob off before you start cleaning it.

The mesh filter in your cooker hood can be particularly susceptible to grease, so you can use the same combination of attachments on your steam cleaner to try and get rid of some of that. Make sure that it's completely dry before you put it back in the cooker hood. Finally, you can use the hand nozzle in conjunction with the terry cloth to clean the outside of the cooker hood.

For smaller, glossy surfaces such as taps, sink holes and cupboard handles, I'm going to move back to the original combination of the detail nozzle with the round brush.

If you've got a hard floor, such as tile or lino the floor tool is an excellent way of getting it clean again. Just attach the large terry cloth, as I've done, and then attach the two extension hoses to the steam gun, before connecting them both together. Once you've done that, the detail nozzle is an excellent way of getting the grouting clean in between tiles.

The SC1020 also has a window cleaning nozzle available. It can be used both internally and externally and you can also attach an extension pipe for getting into those higher up windows as well.

Steam cleaners are also ideally suited to cleaning bathrooms. The detail nozzle along with the round brush is great for using on small stainless steel surfaces, such as taps, sink holes and shower fittings. The hand nozzle along with the terry cloth is ideally suited for cleaning wall and floor tiles and shower cubicle glass. Finally, the detail nozzle on its own is great for cleaning away all the dirt in the grouting between your tiles.

Hopefully this video has given you just a flavour of the potential use that steam cleaning can have in your home. But it doesn't just stop there, you can use steam cleaning on your clothes, your blinds and even to protect your mattress from bed bugs. You can pick up other tips on steam cleaning in other eSpares videos and this Karcher steam cleaner along with all the accessories is available on the eSpares website.
