If you suspect water damage you will need to inspect the condition of the motor and all electrical components for signs of damage to identify the cause of the smoking.
The levers turn it on, without the button pressed, and it continues to run without holding any lever. Pressing the button firmly stops it or unplug at the mains. Is it simply the switch ?

Yes the problem is likely to be the switch or a broken lever.
the switch seems ok on my flymo, but the electrical socket that fits on to it has broken off the prongs, can just where the extension lead goes into the switch box be replaced?? 1 Answer

at the moment it is hard to switch the lawnmower on ,once it comes on it goes for quiet sometime ,do you think it will be the switch.

This is listed for a Turbo Compact 330 (9633307). If the machine does not start when cold and the only part you disturb is the switch to start it then it is likely to be the switch.
I have a flymo Hover Conpact 330 but the switchbox is wired. Do you provide the wire in order to be able to re-wire my lawn mower? 1 Answer
