  • The electrical shielding offered by this plate is critical to safety - mircowaves heat flesh as well as food, so know the risk before proceeding. Search YouTube which has plenty of guiding videos. The design is such that you need to snip the thin metal between the holes at the perimiter of the plate in order to remove it. It goes back rotated 180 degrees with tabs locating on one side and use a self-tapping screw on the other side. By Anonymous - - 21 September 2013
  • I only broke 3/4 of the tabs and used the others as a hinge. refix by hinging down and bend tabs to hold in place. if not use some duct tape By Anonymous - Merseyside - 22 February 2012

  • Don't know whether it is OK for all Panasonic's but would guess it probably is. Easy to install once you have worked out how. By Ro, - - 08 June 2011

The coupler should be released once the motor is out as it needs to move slightly 'off center' but will be held by the motor shaft.

As this is an AC motor the wires can be reversed on the motor without issue. Some motors will rotate clockwise and when stopped may run anti clockwise.

Answer this question

I have accessed the motor from the cover panel under the microwave. All seemed straight forward until I started to try and remove the screws that hold the motor in place. The screws turn and turn and turn but are not releasing the motor. Any suggestions?

The screws are not the best quality and if over tightened when fitting will have probably stripped the thread on the cavity or screw. To remove use one screwdriver to apply pressure levering the motor away as you unscrew the screws. Once started the screws will often 'bite' and start to unscrew.

The motor has a high resistance and will not show if you are measuring on a low resistance range use the higher resistance ranges. It also has a high gear ratio drive so should be difficult to turn. Check the coupling to the turntable is not cracked allowing it to slip when driven, see our article: How to replace a turntable motor www.espares.co.uk/advice/5/147

For a 'project' like this i would simply solder the wires directly onto the motor. The small 'spade terminals' may be difficult to obtain but you could try a car spares supplier.

Answer this question

Both motors seem similar, with the same spec. there is a huge difference in price!

The motors may be Identical but we have no way of knowing. We would recommend using the correct motor if in doubt.

The motor should be between 12 and 20 k ohms typically so your motor appears to have failed.
