My technician recommended running the hottest programme once a week to see off nasty smells. We found a dose of of washing m/c cleaner did the trick

The problem with your machine is likely to be a build up of mould and bacteria probably caused by not allowing the drum to dry out between washes. For more information see our video:

I have a Tecnik washing machine model no TKL9060 which due to a short curcuit is now not working properly. An engineer said that it would be too costly to repair as it was a problem with the motor but if I replaced the motor pump would that solve the problem I wonder as all the programmes seem to be there on the control panel but it just makes a low whirring sound with no movement

OK,when an engineer talks about a motor he means the main motor NOT the pump.Main motors tend to be very expensive to replace.Replacing the pump will make no difference.
