When replacing your chainsaw chain, it is extremely important to get the number of links in the chain correct. You also need to get the correct length of your chain saw bar which is measured from the tip to the machine. The length of the actual chain is not important. The gauge should also be accurate as this is where the chain will slide round the bar while cutting. It is important to measure the width of that groove. Lastly the pitch, this is the distance from the first pin of a link to the first pin of the next link.
