In this age of the credit crunch, everyone is looking to save money. Since the launch of Product Reviews on the eSpares website, we've been overwhelmed with all the reports of how much money you saved. Overall our selection of tumble dryer heater elements got rated the highest for the amount for savings achieved, from savings of £100 for a call out fee to the cost of a new tumble dryer. "Excellent value and reasonably easy to fit. I fitted these to a 3 or 4 year-old Bosch washing machine that someone had actually replaced and was going to throw away! The machine was advertised on freecycle (Google it) and I've ended up with an excellent machine having spent only a few quid on parts. A bargain!"

"Saved from scrap. My expensive condensing tumble driver was taking longer and longer to complete it's work and my wife was pushing for a new one. I finally worked out that there was not enough heat so opened it up. Sure enough one of the heating elements had broken and the sensors were all covered in dust. I carefully removed the heating element noting the wiring and ordered a new heater. I needn't have bothered the replacement came fully wired and was fitted in a few minutes and saved me buying a new drier."

In a poll conducted in September of 2008 Over 60% of respondents said the main reason they fix household appliances themselves was to save money, however, nearly one in five also cite the environment as an important issue and are reluctant to send an appliance to landfill if it can be fixed. In addition, over a quarter have started repairing appliances as they find it easy to source spare parts and advice online, and actually enjoy the sense of achievement it gives them.
